Privacy Policy
How we handle your data.
Last updated: May 21, 2026
The short version
Anchored collects no personal data. Everything you do in the app stays on your device. We have no user accounts, no servers, no analytics, and no third-party trackers. The only outside service involved is Apple, which handles subscription purchases.
Anchored (“the app,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is an iOS application by Aurora Industries, LLC that helps people use their phones more mindfully through Apple's Screen Time and Family Controls APIs, guided breathwork, and intentional pauses. This Privacy Policy explains what data Anchored handles, how it is used, and why almost all of it never leaves your device.
1. Information We Collect
Almost everything Anchored stores lives only on your device, using Apple's standard local storage (UserDefaults, SwiftData, and Apple's secure shared App Group container for Screen Time data). The following information is stored on your device:
- The apps, categories, and websites you choose to pause, selected through Apple's Family Activity picker
- Your pause sessions, breathwork sessions, mood check-ins, and onboarding answers
- App preferences and settings (selected practices, notification preferences, intention text)
- Your Anchored Plus subscription entitlement state (whether you currently have access to premium features)
In-app purchases are handled entirely by Apple's StoreKit. Subscription receipts are validated against Apple's servers to determine entitlement. We never see or store payment information.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
Anchored does not collect, transmit, or store on any server:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any contact information
- Your location
- Your contacts, calendar, photos, or microphone data
- The contents of any other app you use
- The websites you visit (website blocking runs entirely on-device through Apple's Family Controls framework)
- Analytics, telemetry, behavior tracking, crash reports, or device identifiers
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA) or marketing data
Anchored has no user accounts, no login, and no backend servers that store personal data.
3. Screen Time and Family Controls Data
Anchored uses Apple's Family Controls framework so you can choose which apps, categories, and websites to pause. When you grant Screen Time authorization:
- Your selections are stored in a secure, opaque token (FamilyActivitySelection) that even we cannot read — only the system understands its contents.
- This selection stays on your device and is never transmitted off it.
- Anchored does not see, log, or share which specific apps you use, how long you use them, or what you do inside them.
4. iOS Permissions Anchored Requests
Anchored asks for two iOS permissions during onboarding:
- Screen Time / Family Controls — required to pause apps, categories, and websites you choose. Your selections remain opaque to us; only the system knows what they are.
- Notifications — used only for local, on-device reminders (such as a gentle nudge to take a pause). All notifications are scheduled and delivered locally by iOS. We do not send push notifications from any server, because we do not operate one.
You can revoke or change either permission at any time in iOS Settings.
5. How We Use Your Information
On-device data is used solely to provide the app's functionality:
- To pause the apps and websites you've chosen, when you've asked Anchored to
- To show your own session history, mood check-ins, and reflections back to you
- To remember your preferences between launches and unlock Anchored Plus features when applicable
Because nothing leaves your device, we do not personalize, profile, or sell anything based on this information.
6. Third-Party Services
The only external service involved in Anchored is Apple's StoreKit, which processes in-app purchases. Apple's privacy policy governs that processing: apple.com/legal/privacy.
Anchored does not integrate with any third-party SDK, advertising network, analytics platform, or backend service.
7. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with any third party. There is no data to share — Anchored never receives your information in the first place.
The narrow exception is if we were ever legally required to cooperate with a valid government or legal request. Since we hold no user data, there would be nothing to produce.
8. Data Security
Because Anchored does not transmit or store user data on any server, there is no central database to breach. Local data on your device is protected by iOS's standard sandboxing and encryption mechanisms.
9. Data Retention and Deletion
Because everything is stored on your device, you control retention:
- Deleting the app removes all Anchored data from your device.
- You can reset preferences within the app's Settings.
- Your subscription status can be restored through Apple if you reinstall.
10. Subscriptions
Anchored Plus is offered as an auto-renewing subscription through Apple. Purchases, renewals, refunds, and cancellations are handled entirely by Apple's StoreKit and your Apple ID. See our Terms of Use for the full subscription terms.
11. Your Rights and Choices
Most privacy rights (access, correction, deletion, portability) are satisfied automatically by the app's design: your data is already in your hands. You can view, edit, or remove anything stored on-device through the app, or by deleting the app entirely.
For subscription-related data held by Apple, you can manage or cancel subscriptions in iOS Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions.
12. Children's Privacy
Anchored is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the app and there is data you would like reviewed, please contact us.
13. International Data Transfers
Anchored does not transmit personal data internationally — or anywhere else — because it does not transmit personal data at all. Apple's own services (App Store, StoreKit) operate globally and are governed by Apple's privacy policy.
14. California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including:
- The right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose
- The right to request deletion of your personal information
- The right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
- The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights
Because Anchored does not collect personal information, most of these rights are inherently satisfied.
15. European Privacy Rights
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Because Anchored does not collect or process your personal data, there is no processor or controller relationship to manage. If you have questions, contact us using the details below.
16. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. For material changes, we may provide additional notice. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
